モナ・オレンは蝋に似ている。柔らかく、しなやか、自由自在に変容する－。
パリ在住のアーティストMona Orenが日本で感じたインスピレーションを生かした新作の個展を開催いたします。蝋を主たる素材として扱うモナ・オレンは、2025年京都に滞在し、日本文化と向き合ってきました。櫨の実からとれる木蝋を使い、記憶を閉じ込めるかのように蝋の層を重ねた作品や、和紙を使ったインスタレーションなど、モナ・オレンの知性が集結した展示をお楽しみください。

Mona Oren | モナ・オレン
モナ・オレンは1975年イスラエル生まれ。現在はパリを拠点に活動している。
2002年にパリ国立高等美術学校卒業後、素材と動作に注意を払った彫刻的実践を展開。
リリアン・ベタンクール「手の知性」賞（2018年）、サロン・コンパラシオン・テイラー賞（2022年）、レミ・コアントロー財団およびユネスコからの助成金など、数々の栄誉を受けている。ローマのヴィラ・メディチ（2019年）、京都のヴィラ九条山（2022年）など、複数のレジデンスを経験。2025年には再びヴィラ九条山のレジデントに選出されている。パリのギャラリー・ミシェル・アヤムに所属し、フランス国内外のギャラリーで個展を開催。パレ・ド・トーキョー、ヴェネツィアのジョルジョ・チーニ財団、パリ装飾美術館などでのグループ展にも出品。ギャラリー素形での本展は、日本初の個展となる。
Biography Mona Oren, born in Israel in 1975, lives and works in Paris. A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2002, she develops a sculptural practice attentive to materials and gestures. Her work has received numerous distinctions, including the Prix Liliane Bettencourt pour l’Intelligence de la Main (2018), the Taylor Prize at the Salon Comparaisons (2022), as well as grants from the Rémy Cointreau Foundation and Unesco. She has completed several residencies, notably at the Villa Medici in Rome (2019) and at the Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto (2022), where she is again a laureate in 2025. Represented by Galerie Michèle Hayem in Paris, she has presented solo exhibitions in galleries in France and internationally. Her work has also been shown in group exhibitions, at institutions including the Palais de Tokyo, the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice, and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. The exhibition presented at the Gallery SUGATA marks her first exhibition in Japan.

Villa Kujoyama is an institution of the cultural cooperation network of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Operated by Institut français du Japon, Villa Kujoyama works in coordination with Institut Français, and is supported by its main patron the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation.
